630 KHOW's Peter Boyles has surgery after hit on Mary Jane...

No rest for the 630 KHOW wicked... Peter Boyles, #1 rated radio talk show host and star of AM 630 KHOW's "The Peter Boyles Show", calling in to his own show after 5:40 AM Christmas Eve mornng, told guest hosts Chuck Bonniwell and Julie Hayden that he (Boyles) was waylaid by a snowboarder "the size of Dick Butkis* or Randy Gradishar**" while skiing yesterday on vacation in the rugged Colorado Rockies at Winter Park ski resort on the advanced bunny slope... Boyles was scheduled for shoulder surgery at 7:30 AM today... No word at this hour if KHOW team management will place Boyles on IR*** or talk show host waivers**** after recovery from surgery and rehab...

Husted: Ski-vs.-board incident puts Boyles on sidelines
By Bill Husted, The Denver Post
Click here for original article at: denverpost.com

KHOW's Peter Boyles is banged up again.

Up in Winter Park for a full week of skiing and time with old friends he was blindsided on Mary Jane Mountain by a guy on a board. The accident wiped out his left shoulder, his distal biceps and his ski vacation.

"Was he a big guy?" I asked Boyles.

"Bigger than me," he said. "And it had to be the left side. I had broken the shoulder a few years ago fighting (in a Denver fight club), and now it's broken again."

I imagine as Boyles went down, he was screaming, "Not the face! Not the face!" as he just had plastic surgery on his mug to lighten up the load.

He was hit on Dec. 20 and drove himself back to Denver.

"Not a good idea," he said.

He was all trussed up, but he had to lay around moaning and sleep sitting up until Dr. Armodios Hatzidakis could operate on Friday. He missed his radio shift Monday (Fox 31's Julie Hayden and husband Chuck Bonniwell sat in), but says he'll back this morning.

He's pretty bummed out that skiing is probably out for the rest of the season. "What's a left arm good for? Riding a motorcycle and skiing," he said. He figures he can handle the left-hand duties on the radio, just turning a few knobs and pushing a few buttons.

I caught fill-in host Chuck Bonniwell mentioning that Boyles has been out this week with a postoperative infection... While Bonniwell didn't say how bad Peter was... I'm sure there are at least two or maybe one last resort antibiotic(s) that will have Peter up and out in no time...

Cards and audition tapes err... "media" can be sent to Clear Channel Denver...

Peter Boyles wasn't stricken by flesh-eating bacteria, but KHOW host's new face isn't pretty

By Michael Roberts
Westword.com
Tue., Jan. 25 2011 @ 8:49AM

A few months back, we shared photos of KHOW talk-show host Peter Boyles following a face lift, and he was very pleased with the results. Too bad that only a short time later, Boyles came down with a wicked case of cellulitis, a bacterial skin infection that made him extremely ill and caused his new mug look a lot less pretty. So... is the bacteria the flesh-eating kind? He says "no."

Moreover, Boyles insists that the plastic surgery wasn't a factor in the infection.

"I asked that question," he notes. "But I got the plastic surgery on September 8, and if I was going to get sick, it would have hit immediately. It was too long ago for that."

Instead, he suspects the ailment took root after he broke his shoulder on December 21 following a run-in with a snowboarder. He began to feel ill shortly after the procedure but tried to shrug it off for nine or ten days, until he could ignore it no longer.

"When I was a little boy, I had scarlet fever," he recalls, "and this is the sickest I've been since then. The whole side of my face swelled up, my neck swelled up, and stuff was running out of the sores -- weeping, they call it."

When Boyles returned to work late last week, he still wasn't a picture of health. His producer, Greg Hollenback, jokes that the host reminded him of the Mike Myers character Goldmember thanks to the way his face was flaking. But in the days since then, his health has improved.

"I'm on the mend," he says. "I go back for a check-up tomorrow, and if I get the green light, I'm going to start working out again."

Mentioned years ago that I got MRSA as an Operating Room infection during knee replacement. The ordeal that followed was interminable, expensive and painful.

Takes a minimum of 2 weeks to present. Half a year or more to get rid of... Vancomycin, Zyvox or Daptomycin.

A nasty episode.

Left my knee looking like a Bonzai tree.

I thought it was your knotty pine looking right knee???

The thing about MRSA, is that you CAN get it from a toilet seat, or just about anywhere, like from healthclub equipment or surgery or playing Cornhole at the fair...

And $15,000 and 30+ days to treat "a spider bite that won't heal" on your arm is not uncommon... (They "cap" you, i.e. place and leave a catheter in your arm leading to your heart to inject the drugs for the duration... Of course, to save the insurance company money, they let you go home with that thing in your arm that could pop open and bleed you out while you are at sleep at night...)

Germs... Be afraid, be very afraid...
